Embroidered or printed: what's the difference?

Embroidery is stitched into the fabric, so the design won't crack or fade the way a print can. Printing lets us put a large, detailed artwork on the back, like the Palestinian woman in her embroidered thobe on the Yafa hoodie.

Our embroidery is done by machine, made to order. If you want a design you can wear every day without anyone reading it from across the room, go embroidered. If you want the hoodie to start the conversation, go for a back print.

What do the symbols on a Palestinian hoodie mean?

Each symbol stands for land, memory or return. Here is what you are wearing.

• Watermelon. Like the Palestinian flag, the watermelon is red, white, black and green, and displays of the Palestinian flag are often restricted or banned by Israel, so the fruit stands in for it.
• Handala. The barefoot refugee boy was created by cartoonist Naji al-Ali in 1969, and he stays forever 10 years old, the age Naji al-Ali was when his family was displaced in 1948.
• Key of return (مفتاح العودة). The key to a home that families still remember. Roots don't get pulled up, and keys don't forget their doors.
• Olive branch. Despite uprooting and destruction, olive trees persist. We are the olives.
• Hanoon (الحنون). The red poppy that covers Palestine's hills every spring, a sign of hope and sumud (steadfastness).
• Yafa orange. The Jaffa orange from the orchards of Palestine's Mediterranean coast, and the scent of orange blossom in Yafa every spring.

Sizes run S to 2XL or 3XL depending on the design, and the Roots of Return hoodie goes from XS to 4XL. Check the size chart on each product before you order.

Do the hoodies run small?

Some do. The Yafa Orange Blossom, Roots of Resilience and Gaza Roots hoodies run small, so order one size larger than usual.

The embroidered hoodies are a regular, true-to-size fit. Most product pages list measurements in inches.

Is there a Palestine zip-up hoodie or sweatshirt?

Yes, the Heavyweight Zip Hoodie has a metal zipper and an embroidered olive branch at the wrist. The Al Quds Jerusalem Hoodie is also a full zip.

Every Palestine sweatshirt in this collection currently has a hood. We don't carry a crewneck yet.
